Cheap Grow Light Bulbs
If you are looking for artificial indoor plant lights, then you should see if a grow light bulb will meet your needs. Instead of potentially spending hundreds of dollars on a fancy grow light fixture, you could spend just a few dollars and provide plenty of light for your indoor garden. There are several basic types of grow light bulbs that closely parallel what is available in the plant light market.
The first and probably the best choice is buying an LED grow light bulb. This works in the same way as a standard LED grow light, but you are only purchasing the bulb. These are designed to work in any standard light bulb socket, so you can use them in a lamp or light fixture that you already own or buy a cheap lamp to use. They are extremely efficient, with most using just a few watts of power. This helps keep you electric bill costs under control. The efficiency is also good for your garden though because the bulb won’t produce any heat that could fluctuate the temperature.
You could also look into compact fluorescent grow light bulbs. These have many of the same qualities of an LED bulb and are often a little cheaper. They may not produce the same amount of light, but a high quality bulb can still work well for your indoor plants. Hypothetically you could buy a regular fluorescent grow light bulb as well, but unless you have a fixture that will fit the length of the bulb, then it won’t be as cost effective as a CFL grow light bulb.
Buying one of these is a cinch because there are so few compatibility issues to worry about. There are differences in price and quality that you will have to weigh, as with any purchase, but all of them should fit into a standard light socket. Often the price of these plant light bulbs ranges from about fifteen dollars up to about fifty dollars. The nicer and more powerful bulbs obviously occupy the higher end of that scale.
If one bulb doesn’t seem like it will produce enough light for the size of your garden (often a bulb will only work well for one or two plants) you can buy multiple lights and set them up next to each other. This creates the effect of a growing light panel without the large expense. At some point the size of the garden can become prohibitive to setting up multiple bulbs, but by then you will already be a plant lighting expert.
