Indoor Grow Lights
If you are considering planting an indoor garden, or perhaps transplanted some outdoor plants inside for the winter, then you should definitely consider purchasing indoor grow lights. There are a variety of types of these lights that can accommodate any specific needs or situations. Although they can be quite expensive, your indoor grow lights don’t have to ruin your budget for the month because there are cheaper options available.
Most indoor grow lights are attached to a special fixture that you position above the plants that you want to provide light for. Historically, these weren’t that great at producing results, but new light bulb technologies have created a lot of options in the grow light market that all work really well. Some of them, like LED or fluorescent lights, are extremely efficient and won’t even make a dent on your electricity bills, but will definitely make a marked improvement in the growth of your indoor plants.
There are several types of indoor grow lights that you will have to consider when making a purchase. Fluorescent grow lights are fairly cheap and can produce good results. They do produce some flicker and don’t have the longest lifespan but will definitely get the job done. LED grow lights are a little more expensive but will last longer than you can imagine. High Pressure Sodium grow lights are targeted a little more toward advanced indoor garden enthusiasts but produce excellent flowering and produce growth.
The secret to getting started cheaply is that you don’t have to buy a whole light fixture or panel. Those can be quite expensive, but you really only need a light bulb. If your garden is small, then you can get by just using a specific grow light bulb that is designed to go in any standard light socket. This will allow you to use a lamp that you have lying around to provide light for your garden. Almost all of these start in the twenty dollar price range. They don’t provide an immense amount of light, but will work well for one or two medium sized plants.
Growing light fixtures are more expensive, but produce a lot more light output. These can cost several hundred to several thousand dollars. Don’t panic, because you don’t need a thousand dollar grow light unless you have a huge indoor garden or really specific lighting needs. A simple light fixture that uses one of the discussed bulb technologies should suit any average gardener.
The real question when deciding whether to buy indoor grow lights is whether you want your plants to struggle through the low light winter months or thrive year round.
