LED Grow Light Kits

by Admin on November 9th, 2010

If you are both an electronics enthusiast and an avid gardener, then an LED grow light kit might be the perfect project for you to work on. The kits that are available come grouped with all of the necessary parts to correctly build your grow light. Usually there is a lot of electrical soldering involved, but it depends on the type of kit. After completion, you’ll be able to use your hand built LED grow light for any plant growing or indoor gardening purpose.

There are some drawbacks to building a grow light this way, but that is what you always get when you build something yourself. There is no warranty information if the light ends up breaking. If you mess it up during construction, it is simply just ruined. Depending on the quality of the materials and your assembly aptitude, you may not get the full illumination that the light could potentially provide.

Building it yourself gives you a few extra benefits. The first is that you’ll have the satisfaction that you built something that is technically complicated and it helps you with your other hobbies. You’ll find that you value the light much more than you paid for it once you have completed the building process. The other benefit is that it will naturally be much cheaper. Since the manufacturer can just through all the parts in a bag and send it to you and not worry about construction, support, or warranty problems, you can gain substantial savings.

The trickiest part of these LED grow light kits is that it can be difficult to purchase them. LED grow lights are just becoming mainstream as it is, let alone kits to build them yourself. There are a few online retailers such as homegrownlights.com that have a limited selection. If you have a more extensive background in electronics, you can probably just design a small circuit board that can power the number of LED lights you want to use. This will take considerably more time, but will be even cheaper.
